AT&T becomes the third major carrier in North America to sign an agreement with GetJar, the cross-platform app store, to provide immediate access to more than 75,000 free mobile applications.

GetJar started collaborations with Sprint and Rogers (Canada) carriers earlier this year in an attempt to strengthen its business.

GetJar is one of the most successful app stores, offering its users a wide range of cross-platform mobile applications, unlike its rivals who are providing OS-oriented apps: App Store, Android Market and Blackberry App.

AT&T subscribers will be able to access GetJar's catalog through a specially developed app, which is now live on the AT&T AppCenter.

After downloading the GetJar app, AT&T customers will be able to benefit from access to thousands of applications ranging from games, social networking, sports, entertainment and productivity applications.

All applications installed through the dedicated software are managed by GetJar, which makes the partnership even more attractive for AT&T, who is in the position of being able to save all the resources needed to manage such an important service.

“The demand for apps continues to soar and many operators and other third parties are eager to introduce or add to an existing app store, without needing to manage the sourcing and moderating of thousands of individual apps,” said Ilja Laurs, founder and CEO of GetJar.

“Apps are a global phenomenon with demand coming from consumers on all different phones and platforms. We're very excited to extend our application library to AT&T customers,” added Laurs.

The new application is available as a free download for all AT&T subscribers no matter what kind of handset they own. GetJar supports a wide variety of devices including BlackBerry, Windows Mobile, iPhone, Android and Symbian.

Customers of the major carrier can find the GetJar app on the AT&T AppCenter in the Applications category.
