After the success Disney had with Tim Burton’s “Alice in Wonderland,” a remake of the classic tale served in 3D, the movie studio is pitching another film in the same vein, though this time inspired from one of its most popular cartoons. Disney is ironing out the details for a live-action remake of “Cinderella,” which will come in 3D most likely, Hollywood Dailies has learned.
So far, nothing official has yet been announced, but word in the industry has it that Disney is already pitching the project, hoping to get it off the ground as soon as possible. Since this will be a live-action feature film, probably shot in 3D, chances of it happening sooner than later are actually great, since moviegoers’ interest in this type of movies continues to soar, it is being said. Disney looking to invest a lot of money in it should up its chances of being a blockbuster as well.
“After the wild success of Enchanted and the Alice in Wonderland live-action remake, Disney is bringing back more of its classics. Next in line is The Sorcerer’s Apprentice, starring Nic Cage. Now comes word that Disney has its sights on a live-action remake of Cinderella and made a 7-figure pitch for a reimagined lost-slipper story, according to Deadline New York,” the aforementioned e-zine writes.
Granted, there are countless movies that are actually derivations from the classic “Cinderella” story and they mostly fall in the romcom genre. However, Disney might want to do something that stays closer to the original. “The script is being written by Aline Brosh McKenna, whose work includes The Devil Wears Prada and 27 Dresses. While we don’t know what deviations the storyline will take, we’re willing to bet the movie will be in 3D,” Hollywood Dailies further writes.
Coming to prove that Disney is truly looking to make the most of the 3D frenzy, the movie studio also announced yesterday that one of its most successful franchises ever, “Pirates of the Caribbean,” would also get the 3D treatment. “On Stranger Tides,” the fourth film, goes into production this summer and will arrive in theaters in 3D, as we also informed you.
