Redmond-based software company Microsoft has reportedly acquired a new domain that should offer its customers the possibility to access some of its products much easier. The domain in question, Office.com, was previously owned by ContactOffice Group, a company from Europe specializing in virtual office solutions and which, as one can easily notice, has a name that resembles a lot one of the most popular products offered by Microsoft, Office.
Starting with August 4, the domain is Microsoft's property, as showed by the domain’s Whois record, yet there are no further details on what the acquisition implied. Even so, as istartedsomething rightfully notes, “One would be wise to assume Microsoft paid quite a pretty penny for this rare single-noun and vowels-intact domain that now makes its Office Web application suite far more convenient to remember and access."
Considering the campaign Microsoft already started in order to promote its upcoming Office 2010, we're sure that more on this will soon be heard, although Office.com is currently down. In the meantime, we should note that the company has recently filed a trademark with the United States Patent and Trademark Office for the logo that its Microsoft Store should bear. As ISS states, although the Redmond company has been previously rumored to plan on using the logo for the store, it stated that those were only prototypes and it decided on it only last week, when the filing was made.
Microsoft hasn't moved too far from the already popular Windows logo, and anyone can easily recognize the four squares colored in red, blue, green and yellow, and the description of the design, which says “retail store services and online retail services featuring computers, computer hardware, software, computer games, computer peripherals, portable music players and accessories, personal digital assistants, cell phones and accessories, video game consoles and accessories, webcams, books, clothing, back packs, messenger bags, computer bags and novelty items.”
