Apparently, it's all the rage these days...Can you imagine Natalie Portman and Scarlett Johansson playing rival sisters in a historical movie? And not just any kind of movie, but one about treachery, treason and hidden incestuous affairs? Well, apparently the two smoking hot actresses have done just that - and it seems to have worked out very nicely. W magazine seems to have noticed the huge bombshell potential such a collaboration could have on the imagination of every gay, lesbian or straight person or couple in the world who's got a clue about Scarlett and Natalie, and decided to shoot a pictorial featuring the two unlikely "sisters". And boy, did they make an excellent job of it.
The photos show the two actresses wearing provocative, tight corset dresses, high heels and some pretty heavy make-up, posing either separately or together with their arms around one another and accompanied by a dog. The photo shoot is part of Portman and Johansson's promotional campaign for the movie I was telling you about, "The Other Boleyn Girl", which hits theaters on February 29th and is based on the best-selling novel of the same name written by Philippa Gregory. The novel tells the story of sisters Anne and Marry Boleyn, who fight for the affection of the infamous king Henry VIII. The trick is that the seemingly quiet and innocent Portman plays Anne Boleyn (the scheming sibling who eventually steals her sister's lover and marries him), while the sassy and dangerous-looking Johansson plays the quiet and innocent Mary Boleyn.
Alison Owen, the film's producer, seems to think that the unusual casing is one of the things that help create the movie's highly sexualized aura - or "history through porn", as Portman calls it. "It's funny, quite a lot of people said, 'Shouldn't it be the other way around?'", says Owen. "Scarlett is the street-smart one, the initiator. And Natalie has a wisdom and a cleverness about her; she's more of a quiet authority. But I knew it would be intriguing for them to play something removed from a lot of the roles they've done", the producer added. So, everybody, take a look at these photos while you're keeping your fingers crossed for more of the same - and get your ticket money ready for the February 29th premiere.
