Parallels has announced a completely new edition of its virtualization software. Ddubbed Parallels Desktop Upgrade to Windows 7, the program allegedly makes it simpler to successfully upgrade from any edition of Windows XP or Vista. In fact, Parallels claims that its solution is the only complete one that allows you to move all your programs, files, user settings and media to Windows 7 simply, safely and without hiccups.
“Parallels, the worldwide leader in automation and virtualization software, announced that Parallels Desktop Upgrade to Windows 7 is available today at Parallels.com and Amazon, and will be available at retail stores starting on May 31,” the company’s official announcement reads. “Parallels’ new software empowers PC owners to simply and safely upgrade from any edition of Windows XP or Vista to Windows 7, as well as keep and use their existing programs - even if they are not yet compatible with Windows 7.”
The company enumerates the key features of this release, including a brief description for each in part. Talking about the simplified Windows 7 Upgrade Experience, Parallels reveals that an “express” installation function allows users to complete the upgrade to Windows 7 on their existing PC without having to stay at their computer. According to the program’s makers, “The Upgrade Wizard makes it easy by walking you step-by-step through the process.”
There is also no need to reinstall programs, as all applications, files, media and even settings are automatically transferred to the new PC. Users can also opt to keep and run programs that are not yet compatible with Windows 7. Parallels Desktop Upgrade to Windows 7 is available now for $49.99. It ships with a high-speed USB transfer cable, but customers can choose the cable-free version, for $39.99.
“Parallels Desktop Upgrade to Windows 7 provides a simple and safe solution for Windows XP and Vista customers who want to successfully move to Windows 7 but may be overwhelmed by the process,” Parallels CEO Serguei Beloussov said. “Whether people are upgrading an existing PC or moving to a new PC, all of their programs, files and user settings are automatically moved. Even programs not yet compatible with Windows 7 still work, so there’s no reason not to make the move.”
Parallels also develops and sells Parallels Desktop for Mac, a virtualization solution for Mac users looking to run Windows, Linux and other operating systems on a Mac.
Update: One of our readers points out in the comments that Parallels Desktop Upgrade to Windows 7 isn't actually an updated version of Parallels' flagship virtualization software (Parallels Desktop). This being the case indeed, we've updated this report with a few slight modifications to better reflect this. Thanks for the heads up, Steven!
Update 2: Corrected a statement saying Parallels Desktop Upgrade to Windows 7 was available for Mac OS X; included a reference to Parallels Desktop for Mac, complete with download link on Softpedia.
