Scheduled for a theatrical release in May 2010, “Iron Man 2” is slowly starting to shape up into a wonderful production that fans will positively adore. To add more intensity to the hype that is already starting to be felt everywhere in the blogosphere, main star Robert Downey Jr. is doing the media rounds, spilling the beans on the story and what fans should expect from the sequel.
Speaking with MTV, the actor reveals that “Iron Man 2” will not deal with the “Demon in a Bottle” storyline, the alcoholism subplot exploited in issues #120-128 in 1979, as some fans have previously speculated. Since that is a story that can stand on its own, Downey Jr. says, the producers have chosen to disregard it, focusing instead on the period between the origin and the Demon, meaning, on who the man behind the mask is.
“As a matter of fact, I think that’s probably best saved, because it’s such its own storyline. We’re going for the interim space [between the origin and “Demon”], which is more a look behind the mask of someone who says he’s Iron Man and what it really is to become a superhero.” the actor tells MTV. And he’s not joking either, just in case fans were still doubting his honesty, since Downey is telling the same story to ET Online as well.
“The film [‘Iron Man 2’] is almost entirely about character, and yet we still have twice as much action as we did last time, so it’s going to be nuts.” the actor reveals. “Essentially ‘Iron Man 2’ is about looking behind the armor, or the armature, of a superhero. It’s one thing to say you’re Iron Man, it’s another thing to be fully ready to do that.” Robert further explains, hinting that, while still being action-packed, the film will also have more acting on his behalf as well.
To round up the good news related to “Iron Man 2,” production is slated to start this Monday, as director Jon Favreau himself has confirmed on his Twitter page. The cast is all in place, he says, and everything is ready to go, which can only mean one thing for fans: more details should be coming their way very soon. Keep an eye on this space for more.
