Says second installment is his favoriteJust recently, British actor Robert Pattinson, the hottest male actor of the moment thanks to his part as gorgeous vampire Edward Cullen in “The Twilight Saga,” revealed some tidbits about the upcoming film in the franchise, “New Moon.” Another interview with him has popped online at CanMag although, for the sake of argument, it’s not as new as the first one, having been taken at this year’s Comic-Con in San Diego.
Fans already know that Pattinson can’t stand to watch his own movies and that he literally dreaded having to attend the “Twilight” premiere, as they also know he was extremely embarrassed about having to shoot a shirtless scene for “New Moon.” Nevertheless, Robert says, the second installment is his favorite because of the “juxtaposition:” what he saw in the book (and will probably be seen in the film as well) was a very hyped character, Edward, humbled by the love he feels for Bella (Kristen Stewart).
Moreover, the star reveals, fans of the first film should probably know that “New Moon” will definitely bring something new to the table and, of course, not only in terms of plot. “Aesthetically, it looks very different. The script was very different. It’s a completely different mood. So, I’m really interested to see how it works out. It wasn’t just the director that made this one different. It was so different as well because we kind of knew what type of animal that we were dealing. I was much more of a supporting role, in this one. It was actually one of the most relaxing jobs that I’ve ever done. Chris [Weitz, the director] has a really peaceful presence and I got on really well with him.” Pattinson said of “New Moon.”
As for the “vampires are hot” trend that the “Twilight” film started, Pattinson believes he’s the last person who should be asked how he feels about it. Movies with such plotlines have always fascinated audiences ever since the early days of cinematography but Pattinson, as far as he’s concerned, has never looked at Stephenie Meyer’s books as just another vampire story, as he puts it. Because of this, he tries to focus more on the acting part in the films made from the books rather than on “the vampire element.”
“I think we’re the worst people to ask about it. The problem is that, when I looked at it, I never looked at it as a vampire story, right from the beginning. When I try to play it, I try to eliminate the vampire element, as much as I can, and just see it as a tool to make their relationship a little more fraught. Right after the audition, I found myself bizarrely invested in the story and I hadn’t even read the books, at that point. I’ve gotten more and more attached to it. I’ve been talking about the script for ‘Eclipse’ to people, over the last few weeks, and I find myself getting very argumentative, which I’m not usually. They definitely have some kind of power.” Robert Pattinson states.
