Also includes new artwork and updated software!The third and last beta version of openSUSE 11.0 was announced last night. Beta 3 fixes over 700 bugs, adds some new artwork and a few updated packages. The openSUSE developers have found some bugs, which are not fixed yet. Here is a short list with the most annoying ones and their workarounds:
￭ NVIDIA cannot be compiled. Workaround: go here for a patch and how to apply it;
￭ The legacy SFF ATA controller doesn't work because the parallel driver grabs IRQ14;
￭ T41p shuts down due to "temperature critical";
￭ The branding is not finished yet;
￭ Package selector does not show any patterns at all;
￭ The openSUSE control center, YaST, cannot be started under GNOME;
￭ No window decoration. Workaround: run the 'compiz-manager &' or 'metacity-replace &' commands;
￭ Sometimes, KDM is unable to detect the keyboard;
￭ When you start Kontact, you'll see the sidebar splitter on right window border. Workaround: move it to the left to see the rest of the components.
Remember that this is a beta release and should NOT be installed on production machines. It is intended to be used for testing purposes only. Please report bugs to the openSUSE Bug Tracker.
